Surfing North East Spain

All types of reefs and quality beachbreaks!

Mythical, world-class waves, for unforgettable days of surfing. This is the north of Spain, a surfers' paradise, stage for some of the most important competitions on the international circuit. With varied coastline and perfect orientation, this area gets great waves all year round, practically regardless of the wind conditions.

The coast of North East Spain is a dream come true for surfers. Its extraordinary geographical situation means there are excellent waves all year round - powerful, large and varied. You will also find a huge variety of different locations, so that you can practise your favourite sport with a range of swells and wind conditions. All this, in an excellent atmosphere on quiet beaches, away from the crowds. There are even places where you will be all but alone in the water. These are just a few of the many reasons that assure you an unbeatable surfing session in Spain, on the shores of the Cantabrian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

Throughout this area of the Spanish coastline you will find a range of opportunities to practise this exciting sport: all but mythical beaches, with world famous waves and a long surfing tradition, untouched by mass tourism… The range of beaches on offer is almost infinite, with spots such as Rodiles, 27 kilometres from Gijón; San Vicente de la Barquera, Suances, Liencres and Santa Marina, less than 60 km from Santander; Zarautz, 21 kilometres from San Sebastián; and close to Bilbao, some 37 kilometres away, Sopelana, Bakio and Mundaka, considered to have the best left-hander in Europe and one of the best in the whole world. These are just a few examples of multitude of beaches on offer.

All this adds up to an irresistible panorama, rounded off by an exceptional climate, delicious regional gastronomy and a wealth of historic-artistic heritage. There are endless reasons that make surfing in north east Spain an exceptional experience. Our recommendation is simple: come and see for yourself.
