Mount Maunganui - Main beach | Surf Spot | New Zealand

Mount Maunganui - Main beach

Main Beach is the small beach at the northern tip of the peninsula close to the mount. If the Bay of Plenty, the whole north east facing bay gets swell this beach can get really good! It is usually a bit smaller and cleaner here than further south as the beach opens up. This has the advantage that the beach is also surfable in larger more messy conditions. The current can get pretty strong though and if that's the case and close periods keep you locked in close to the shore there is usually a channel going out on the southern end of the beach right next to the rocks. The mount is also a good town to party especially around new years when Kiwis from everywhere gather here to celebrate.
