Baleal Surf Camp in Peniche

Location: Baleal Surf Camp is a small family run business based in Peniche Portugal. It was the first surf camp to be established in Portugal back in 1993 and so it got the prime beach-side location in one of Europe’s most consistent and flexible surf spots. By focusing on customer service and the environment – it has grown to become one of the best known and best loved surf schools on the Atlantic. Teaching people how to surf while making sure they have the best possible surfing holidays is our main goal and what we thrive on. The surf camp has a laid-back vibe and accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. We welcome everyone from singles to families, experts to novices.

Surf classes

Level 1:As a beginner, we teach you the basics of surf as a sport. You’re supposed to be able to swim. Even if you’ve never seen the sea before, we guarantee that we will make you stand on a board and be able to surf a wave. That is our commitment and our mission(...)

Level 2: At this level, you’re supposed to have surfed before and to be able to stand on the board on most of your attempts. You’re also supposed to be able to paddle up to the waves, which should not exceed one metre or, at the most, not rise further than your chest. At this stage in your progress, you will learn to take the drop when surfing green waves and to descend to the base of the wave. The most important manoeuvre at this stage, preceding all others, is to be able to do a bottom turn, i.e., to turn at the base of the wave. Only when you are skilled at this technique will you be able to progress to other types of manoeuvres such as the off-the-lip, the cutback and floater, and other manoeuvres.

Accommodation: The “Cool” accommodation deal is our budget wise option. This kind of lodging is hostel style, with shared dorms and house with the other guests. It’s ideal for getting to know people from the world over, in a youthful and relaxed ambiance. The Surf House Hostel and the Village House Hostel are our two “Cool” deal houses. They’re both located just 200m from the beach, and from various Baleal surf spots.

The “Superior” accommodation deal is our more comfortable option, you share a twin or double room in one of the apartments or villas. It’s ideal for couples, families, and groups of friends that appreciate more privacy and less people around.In these apartments you get a room all to yourself and only share the house.

Exclusive Concession - Because of pioneering the activity in Peniche and Portugal; we’re one of the few surf camps in Europe with an exclusive license to our beach concession. Given by Peniche’s Harbor Master for the practice of nautical recreational sport for the 4 months of the seaside bathing season, that is, from June to the end of September. We guarantee your safety with a Lifeguard and ensure the cleanliness of the beach. So, Baleal Surf Camp has an exclusive permit to use the beach for surf classes, which means that Baleal Surf Camp can use the beach for their surfing classes, in excellent safety conditions, and without all the crowding of other surf camps and surfing schools to disturb them.
